I realize that this type of thing happens, but it's discouraging to see it acted out. Sometimes I just can't understand why people are so cruel! This world is so full of hatred and it really depresses me!
I know that I would have said something to a person that was treating anyone, Down syndrome or not, this way! I hope that I would be eloquent in my response to them, but I have a feeling that my anger would get the best of me.
Do me and Gavin a favor. If you ever see something like this happen.....please speak up and let this person know that it's NOT OK to treat people like this! Thank you!

I watched that piece and I found myself a sobbing hot mess!! I know that people can be cruel, but for a split second, I saw Landon 15 years down the road. This SCARES me!! I don't know who I was more angry at, the person doing the berating or the "not.so.innocent." bystanders! I have to have hope and faith that there are more good people in this world!!
I'm thinking of creating a "forever bubble".....lol:)
I would NEVER treat another person like that and having Lillian has certainly opened my own eyes to my intolerances. I would have trouble controlling my anger if I witnessed something of this nature. Good for the older woman who jumped in there!
I can't even begin to imagine not standing up and saying something, even before Marissa was born. I have always been a sensitive person. I wasn't in the "in crowd" at school, and while I was never really bullied, I felt what it was like to be on the outside looking in. I never would allow myself to witness another human being to be treated in this manner, Down Syndrome, other special needs, or not!
I know that, even though this was acting on the part of the clerk and the mean lady, the responses from the "innocent by-standers" were real. I hope and pray more people can be like the one lady and stand up for those who may not be able to stand up for themselves.

it was hard to watch the people standing by not saying anything, but for the ones who did - wow they were great!
I like to live in my bubble and hope we don't ever encounter situations like that, but hopefully be prepared if we do.
